It’s a long-term trend that isn’t slowing down anytime soon: Math comprehension and problem-solving capabilities are required for the majority of the career market’s most desirable jobs.
A recent report conducted by CareerCast.com ranked data scientist, software engineer and mathematician among today’s top 10 professions. Experts took into account factors such as work environment, income, job growth outlook and stress.
These findings are in line with a study conducted by the U.S. Department of Commercestating that STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) jobs are projected to continue to grow at a rate of almost double that of non-STEM jobs throughout the current decade. Researchers also noted that “STEM workers command higher wages, earning 26 percent more than their non-STEM counterparts.”
It’s no secret that as the competition gets fiercer and the demands of employers get higher, math enrichment programs such as those offered at Mathnasium Learning Centers become increasingly valuable to families. “Math is the backbone for all STEM fields,” said Larry Martinek, veteran math educator and Mathnasium co-founder/Chief Instructional Officer. “As the nationwide demand for high performing STEM professionals steadily increases, so will the demand for workers with strong math skills.”
Martinek developed Mathnasium’s proprietary teaching methodology across more than 40 years of instruction and research to resolve the disconnect between students’ basic skills training and the curriculum they were expected to master in the years to come. The result: a comprehensive, customizable math program that addresses the unique needs of every student. For over a decade, this unique teaching method has allowed Mathnasium to transform the way students understand and appreciate math.
All Mathnasium students start by taking an assessment designed to pinpoint areas of strength and weakness. These results provide the foundation upon which Mathnasium constructs the student’s personalized learning plan. Mathnasium students receive the fundamental practice they need to master number facts, build computational skills, and improve number sense, an intuitive understanding of how numbers work. They also receive the support they need for homework and tests. Students learn in a friendly, productive learning environment and are taught by instructors well-versed in integrating Mathnasium’s techniques with curriculum used in school.
“Every parent wants the best for their child, including a bright future and successful career. Mathnasium seeks to provide students with all-around mathematical knowledge and confidence that will benefit young learners for a lifetime. As the job market continues to become more dependent on math-minded individuals, Mathnasium will continue to do its part by helping children develop an understanding of—and a passion for—the language of numbers,” Martinek concluded.
