Kobad and Nancy Bugwadia of Mathnasium Named Franchisee of the Year by International Franchise Association

PHOENIX, Feb. 19, 2024 – The International Franchise Association (IFA) named Kobad and Nancy Bugwadia, owners of Mathnasium Learning Center of Mountain View – Los Altos and Mathnasium of Campbell – Los Gatos, both in California, as a 2023 Franchisee of the Year. Kobad and Nancy were honored at the 64th IFA Annual Convention in Phoenix, Ariz., for being outstanding franchise establishment owner-operators.

The Franchisee of the Year Award recognizes leading franchise owners from IFA member brands whose outstanding performance and contributions help protect, enhance, and promote the franchise business model. Nominated by their parent company, individuals are selected for their involvement in their communities, embodying the entrepreneurial spirit, fostering a strong and healthy culture with their workforce, and assisting their fellow franchisees when called upon.

Kobad Bugwadia has a Ph.D. in Electrical & Computer Engineering from Rutgers University. Nancy Bugwadia, holds a BS in Microbiology and an MS in Clinical Nutrition and is also a Registered Dietitian. Through Mathnasium, the dynamic husband-and wife-duo are changing the lives of the children and families in their communities. They will soon be opening Mathnasium of Willow Glen and has created partnerships with Parent Leadership Organizations, local schools, and non-profit organizations.

“Franchisees of the Year exemplify what franchising is all about – providing opportunity, serving others, and fulfilling the American Dream,” said Matthew Haller, President and CEO of the International Franchise Association. “We are proud to recognize Kobad & Nancy with the highest honor IFA awards to individual franchisees, and I have no doubt their work is changing lives and making a lasting community impact.”

Averaging over 20% year-over-year growth for the past 11 years, Kobad and Nancy are proud parents of two kids who have attended kindergarten through university in the San Francisco Bay Area. Being involved in their children’s education has helped them understand a student’s perspective on learning, which has largely contributed to the co-owners averaging 300 kids per center, one of the highest enrollment rates throughout the Mathnasium franchise.

“We are honored and grateful to receive this prestigious award, which is certainly a testament to the dedication of our incredible team and the impact we’ve made in shaping students’ mathematical journeys,” said Kobad Bugwadia. “This recognition reaffirms our commitment to providing personalized and enriching math education. Together, we continue to unlock the potential in every child, making a lasting difference in their academic lives and beyond.”

There are approximately 806,000 franchised businesses across the U.S., providing over 8.7 million direct jobs and generating over $858 billion in economic output. According to Oxford Economics, franchising on average provides higher wages and better benefits than non-franchised businesses, as well as greater entrepreneurial opportunities to minorities, women, veterans, and other underrepresented communities.

“We are immensely proud to have one of our top-performing franchisees, who are also two wonderful people, acknowledged with this prestigious award,” said Mike Davis, CEO of Mathnasium. “Kobad and Nancy’s commitment to their students, families, and the soon-to-be three communities they serve is special! Those communities are blessed to have Bugwadia franchised Mathnasium centers helping their kids understand, master, and love math.”
